The SAP® C_HCMP certification checks whether you hold the fundamental, project-ready knowledge of SAP HCM Payroll on SAP S/4HANA rather than just familiarity with the terminology. It spans the core HR foundation — logging on and navigating the system, personnel administration and HR master data, organizational structures, and time management — before moving into the payroll heart of the credential: running and simulating payroll, correction and retroactive runs, posting results to Financial Accounting, generating bank transfers, and troubleshooting typical payroll errors. On the configuration side it covers master-data setup, remuneration and wage-type structures, personnel calculation rules, schemas, wage-type valuation, absence valuation, factoring, cumulation, and average processing. Because it is delivered as a Scenario-Based Assessment, the exam rewards applied execution within realistic business situations, and it is positioned as an entry-level qualification for consultants working under the guidance of an experienced colleague.

1. 1Treat the payroll process as one connected flow — master data, time inputs, the payroll run, correction and retroactive runs, then the FI posting and bank transfer — so you can trace how an upstream change reshapes the final result.
2. 2Drill personnel calculation rules and schemas together with wage-type valuation: schemas orchestrate the run while valuation bases and derived wage types determine the amounts, and the two are frequently examined as a combined reasoning task.
3. 3Give retroactive accounting its own study block — practise how a master-data change in a past period triggers recalculation, since this is a high-value area where the effect on the current run is easy to overlook.
