Independent, reasoning-first practice for the SAP® C_HAMOD Data Engineer - SAP HANA certification, built for the 2026 System-Based Assessment format.
Who it's for: Data engineers, BI and analytics developers, and technical consultants who provision and model data on SAP HANA Cloud and want a recognized associate credential proving they can build calculation views, integrate and replicate remote data, and manage modeling content for reporting and analysis workloads.
The SAP® C_HAMOD certification checks whether you can actually provision and model data on SAP HANA Cloud and SAP HANA, not merely describe the tools. It spans two connected disciplines: building and optimizing calculation views in SAP Business Application Studio — dimension and cube views, projection, aggregation, join, union, rank and minus/intersect nodes, calculated and restricted columns, variables and input parameters, hierarchies, and custom SQLScript logic — and provisioning the underlying data through virtualization, replication, and transformation flowgraphs using SAP HANA smart data integration. Because it is delivered as a System-Based Assessment, the exam rewards applied execution: you complete modeling and provisioning tasks in a working system rather than answer isolated recall questions. Content targets an intermediate Data Scientist profile at project-participation depth, and also covers performance tuning, result caching, modeling lifecycle, projects, and security.

The blueprint areas to focus your preparation on.
Preparing the SAP Business Application Studio workspace — development spaces, projects, and navigation — then building the core calculation views, including dimension, cube, and time-based dimension views, choosing appropriate data sources, and checking model output against expected results.
Working with the common building blocks of a calculation view: projection and aggregation nodes, join nodes with filtering and optimization, union nodes and union pruning, minus and intersect nodes for data slices, and rank nodes for ordered result selection.
Generating restricted and calculated columns, applying filters and currency conversion, driving views dynamically with variables and input parameters and their mappings, modeling hierarchies, and querying modeled hierarchies for flexible, reusable analytical models.
Implementing custom logic with the SAP HANA Cloud SQL Console, SQLScript, and reusable functions inside calculation views, applying recommended modeling practices at both the view and node level to keep models correct, maintainable, and performant.
Validating models with Performance Analysis mode, debugging with Debug Query mode, analyzing executions with the SQL Analyzer, controlling parallelization and partitioning, and storing results through static cache, snapshots, and MDS cubes to improve response times.
Managing modeling content within projects — project structure, deployment, external data access, and Git-based source control — plus securing models through analytic privileges, roles, and data masking for sensitive information across the modeling lifecycle.
Outlining SAP HANA data provisioning technology, implementing virtualization through remote sources, virtual tables, and linked databases, replicating data via SQL, replication tasks and services, and building transformation flowgraphs with common and advanced nodes.
The SAP learning-journey courses this certification draws on.
Developing Data Models with SAP HANA Cloud
The core modeling course — builds foundational skills in calculation view design, from dimension and cube views through joins, unions, ranking, embedded functions, dynamic parameters, hierarchies, custom SQLScript, performance tuning, result caching, project lifecycle, and modeling security.
Provisioning Data to SAP HANA Cloud
Focuses on getting data into SAP HANA Cloud — outlining provisioning technology, implementing data virtualization with remote sources and virtual tables, replicating data through SQL, tasks and services, and transforming data with flowgraphs.
